Sunshine Coast Epoxy Flooring FAQs

Read Sunshine Coast epoxy flooring frequently asked questions here, courtesy of Ash and Flo, the owners of Trendline Flooring. Your experienced, local epoxy flooring installer.

1. What types of epoxy finishes are there?

Here at Trendline Flooring, we have a few different epoxy finishes available for residential and commercial areas. You can choose from plain colour epoxy, matrix systems, metallics, as well as full coverage ultraflake and hyperflake. The hyperflake epoxy goes even further as it also has a few different finishes available for gloss percentage.

2. How long does it take to install an epoxy floor?

Obviously, depending on the type of epoxy finish used, and the size of the area covered, how many days it takes will vary. But, to give you a general idea, to complete a 5 coat flake system installation within a double garage generally takes 3 to 4 days.

3. How long does an epoxy floor last?

Epoxy is one of those products where you get what you pay for. Cheaper epoxy finishes and DIY type kits definitely do not enjoy anywhere close to the lifespan of the quality epoxy systems we use here at Trendline Flooring. Our products are all high-quality and last for over 20 years. We have been using the same products since we opened up our doors back in 2014 and we can’t fault them one bit. They are, quite frankly, the best epoxy finishes available in South East Queensland and they continue to exceed our expectations year after year.

We have checked out other epoxy products from different suppliers, but they simply don’t hold a candle to our tried and true epoxy solutions.

4. Are epoxy floors easy to clean?

Epoxy floors are known for their ease of cleaning, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, hosing down and so on. Basically, they are very easy to clean and maintain. And, best of all, for people who intend to park vehicles on the epoxy floor, or use it as part of an industrial or commercial workspace, this type flooring is also chemical and oil resistant.

Here’s a brief personal anecdote example, Flo and I had one of our car’s power steering fluid leak gradually out onto our garage floor for a week in our home garage before we noticed what was happening. Despite it going unnoticed for a full week, it was wiped off with quickly and easily with just a few paper towels and left zero marks behind. It was as if it never happened.

5. Does epoxy flooring peel off like paint?

The short answer is “no”, providing the preparation is done correctly. At Trendline Flooring, we diamond grind every floor before applying a primer coat.

We follow the 6 P’s:

  1. Proper
  2. Preparation
  3. Prevents
  4. Piss
  5. Poor
  6. Performance

6. How soon before I can use my new epoxy floor?

Epoxy needs 7 days to fully cure and the top clear coats need 3 days. You should give it 24 hours before it should experience any foot traffic and 5 days before any heavy furniture and/or cars should be introduced to the space.

7. Does epoxy flooring go yellow over time?

All epoxies have a chance of yellowing in UV light, but using a high-quality top coat generally prevents this from happening. At Trendline Flooring, we normally use a two pack, two coat clear system, but we also offer a 100% solids single coat clear. If you would like information on the differences between our top coats, and what type would be best for your needs, please get in touch with us. Flo and I are happy to answer this question, and any others you may have.
